China Recorded Lowest Birthrate As A Result of Pandemic

Prof. Stuart GIETEL-BASTEN from Division of Public Policy said in an article that China recorded the lowest birthrate last year, saying the statistics are in keeping with a general global downward trend as a result of the pandemic in 2020, but he expects the drop will ease off in coming years. He added that downward structural trend is likely to continue because the number of childbearing women is declining.

Prof. WANG Zhe, Co-director of the Environmental Management and Technology Program, represented the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) to share the updates of AIS UG programs, including the new extended major in Sustainability and the renaming of BSc in Integrative Systems and Design to BSc in Innovation, Design and Technology to groom technologists and innovators. Prof. Wang also shared the AIS graduates' strong employment prospects, a remarkable 21% increase of the starting salary over the previous year, amid global volatility.
