In an article on the humanoid created by SZ-based AI Robotics, the Assistant Professor of Division of Arts and Machine Creativity (AMC), Prof. Harry YANG said many robots are programmed for routine tasks, but trends are shifting towards the use of embodied AI. As tasks become more complex and robots are required to understand and act based on different situations, he predicted that it will take about 5 to 10 years before humanoid robots can become truly useful in homes. HKUST has been appointed by the Asia Pacific Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (APO), a collaborative partnership hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO)'s Regional Office for the Western Pacific, to spearhead a regional research consortium focused on digital health innovation. Led by the Associate Professor of Division of Public Policy (PPOL) Prof. Alex HE Jingwei, who is also Acting Director of the Institute for Public Policy (IPP) and Principal Investigator of the consortium, the five-year consortium commencing in 2025 will conduct interdisciplinary research addressing the challenges of aging population in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to his leadership of the Consortium, Prof. He was invited to speak at the World Economic Forum’s Summer Davos in Tianjin, China, addressing how technology and investment in the care economy and social infrastructure can drive inclusive prosperity amid the region’s shifting demographics. Other representatives from HKUST include Dr. Shin Cheul KIM, the Associate Vice-President for Research and Development (Knowledge Transfer) of Office of Knowledge Transfer (OKT), and the Chair Professor of Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CIVL), Prof. SU Hui.
