Engineer, Arup
Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management, Class of 2018
"I am lucky to have had a diverse upbringing spanning the cultures and ideals of four separate countries across two continents. I came back to Hong Kong to pursue an impact-driven undergraduate degree which emphasised both technical excellence in one's chosen engineering discipline and overall broad-based knowledge. Technical individuals often forget the social environment in which we must all operate, and hence I am grateful that the Dual Degree Program gave me the freedom to pursue interests both within and outside of the normative undergraduate curriculum, and to engage with the broader society we operate in.
Now working in London I recognise my privileges of personal, economic, cultural and political choices. Although the freedoms once enjoyed by my home city of Hong Kong has been aggressively chipped away since my time at HKUST, I continue to hope that the individuals and ideals behind the DDP program continue to uphold their core values in such ever-changing climates.
Thus on my part, it is the ultimate ideal of doing social good, building an equitable and sustainable future that drives my pursuit of a career as a civil engineer alongside a concurrent pursuit of the arts. "
