HKUST alumnus-founded Point Fit Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding with France’s Kinomap at the Hong Kong Tech Pavilion during VivaTech 2025, Europe’s annual startup and tech showcase, which concluded last Saturday. Under the partnership, the startup’s sweat biomarker data will be integrated into Kinomap’s platform, aiming to enhance indoor training experiences and expand Point Fit’s sales channels through Kinomap’s global partner network. South Asia facing extreme, frequent heat waves

More coverage on the Chief Development Strategist and Adjunct Professor of Division of Environment & Sustainability (ENVR), Prof. Christine LOH's concerns that a pattern of severe heat waves in South Asia is "clear and accelerating", citing the abnormally high temperatures in some parts of Pakistan. She warned that such heat waves will lead to heat stress or dehydration, as well as water stress, calling for local agencies to take preventive measures to combat the impact of the heat on humans and save lives. In Wenweipo’s series of JUPAS programme highlights, the HKUST Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP) is featured. As the first of its kind in Hong Kong, this program allows students to earn two internationally recognized degrees in just five years: a BEng or BSc, alongside a BBA. T&M-DDP is designed to provide a world-class interdisciplinary education, emphasizing technological innovation and managerial leadership with a global perspective. The program enrolls 40 to 50 students annually, with a JUPAS to non-JUPAS admission ratio of 41:59 and an admission rate of 26% for JUPAS Band A applicants. For the 2025/26 academic year, 22 places are available for JUPAS applicants, with HKUST highlighting interview performance as a critical factor in the admissions process. (Wenweipo)

Coronavirus: air pollution improved during China’s lockdowns – and it may have reduced hospital visits

In an article on Mainland China’s improved air quality during its earlier lockdown, Assistant Professor HE Guojun from the Division of Environment & Sustainability (ENVR) said while lockdowns could bring short-term positive health impacts, the long-term health costs arising from limited health care access for chronic patients during the lockdown is also significant. His earlier research published in Nature Sustainability which estimated that about 24,000 to 36,000 premature deaths caused by air pollution may have been delayed due to the lockdowns was also cited.
