In an article on the discussion of the Advisory Council on the Environment (ACE) about whether to introduce three new parameters under WHO’s Global Air Quality Guidelines, Prof. Alexis LAU, Head and Chair Professor of the Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR) and a member of ACE, said that the Government should consider establishing a new mechanism over the next five years to address air pollution. This mechanism should primarily use health risks as the main indicator for determining emission reduction targets rather than solely adjusting the emission standards of a few pollutants.

In a study in Science Magazine, Prof. Albert PARK, Chair Professor of the Division of Public Policy (PPOL) explained how “green nudges” - prompts to promote environmentally friendly behaviors – could reduce single-use cutlery from online food delivery in China. If green nudges were applied to all of China, more than 21.75 billion sets of SUC would be saved annually—equivalent to eliminating 3.26 million metric tons of plastic waste and save 5.44 million trees.
