中国绿色科技的成功,让西方深感焦虑
05/07/2026
An article by Prof. Christine LOH Kung-Wai, Chief Development Strategist in the Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR), on EU's mistaken diagnosis on China’s “overcapacity” surrounding its massive expansion in clean energy technologies. Prof. Loh argued that overcapacity is not just an economic diagnosis. Instead, it is the language governments use when another country's industrial rise begins to irk. The challenge is whether that irritation can be managed through rules, restraint, domestic renewal and cooperation, or whether it becomes another front in the fragmentation of the global economy.

China braces for back-to-back typhoons as extreme weather risks rise
11/07/2026
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR) Chair Prof. SU Hui pointed out that the collapse of a reservoir in Guangxi exposed infrastructure weaknesses. Under the impact of climate change, China's long coastline, complex topography, and monsoon climate have led to prominent risks, and El Nino has brought forward this year's typhoon season. ENVR Adjunct Prof. SHUN Chi-Ming warned of torrential rains in inland cities following typhoons, noting that extreme heat can also trigger sudden convective downpours in HK.
