Smart robotics is undeniably transforming how we live and work—from assistive devices empowering aging populations to AI-driven logistics revolutionizing modern cities. Yet, technology alone is only half the equation. How do we merge engineering ingenuity with entrepreneurial vision to design solutions that are not only innovative, but ethical, scalable, and human-centric?
Driven by this challenge, the students from the Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP) immersed themselves in the vibrant world of innovation and entrepreneurship, making a meaningful impact through the TEMG4970G Asia Business Plan Competition (ABPC) 2026. During this 10-day residential program, the T&M-DDP students embarked on an exciting adventure in Guangzhou, alongside students from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), National University of Singapore, and National Tsing Hua University, to develop innovative, investor-ready business solutions that harness robotics and artificial intelligence to address real-world challenges.
Under the theme "Smart Robotics & AI Innovation", the students collaborated closely with faculty mentors and industry experts while gaining firsthand exposure to Guangzhou’s dynamic high-tech innovation ecosystem. Company visits to VLAI, RoboSense, and XPeng provided valuable insights into emerging technologies, commercialization strategies, and industry trends, helping participants translate ideas into viable business opportunities.
The program culminated in a Startup Investor Pitch Competition, where teams presented their business plans to a panel of mentors and industry professionals. Beyond developing strong business proposals, participants strengthened their leadership, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration skills, reflecting the T&M-DDP's mission to cultivate the next generation of leaders with technology and management know-how.
