Prof. TSUI Chi Ying, Professor of the Division of Integrative Systems and Design (ISD), recently joined RTHK Radio 1’s program Infinite Future to share insights on the transformative role of chip design in artificial intelligence.
Prof. Tsui outlined how advances in semiconductors and microelectronics have fueled breakthroughs in computation over the past three decades, laying the foundation for today’s AI-driven world. From enabling mobile technologies to powering large-scale AI models, chip innovation has been central to reshaping the digital landscape.
He also pointed to the growing importance of edge computing and wearable devices, noting that AI will increasingly move beyond data centers into everyday applications such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, and human-integrated systems.
In reflecting on research and innovation, Prof. Tsui stressed the value of pursuing genuine intellectual curiosity and identifying the most meaningful problems to solve, underscoring the qualities that will drive the next phase of AI advancement.
