Elevatefoods, a startup founded by PhD in Integrative Systems and Design (ISD) students Connie LEE and Timothy CHAN, is transforming the soft meal experience with 3D food printing. Their latest project recreates Chinese Dim Sum in soft, swallow-friendly textures, offering a culturally familiar and dignified dining option for seniors with swallowing difficulties.
Their project was showcased at a recent HKUST inclusive Yum Cha experience, where healthcare and community representatives acknowledged its potential to enhance food accessibility for aging populations. Currently, Elevatefoods can produce items like soft chicken legs and broccoli in under three minutes—three times faster than manual methods. The team plans to expand their menu to include foods such as egg tarts and puddings, with a long-term goal of serving hospitals, elderly homes, and broader communities.
Backed by HKUST’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, Elevatefoods integrates design, AI, and engineering to pioneer next-generation soft foods—bringing joy, nutrition, and tradition back to every bite.
