On July 4, 2026, the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) welcomed nearly 130 enthusiastic secondary school students to the HKUST campus for “A Day at AIS”, offering Form 4 and 5 (Grade 10 and 11) students a vibrant taste of university life and interdisciplinary learning. Through hands-on exploration of AIS’s undergraduate programs, the students gained firsthand insights to help shape their future academic pathways.
Prof. Arthur LAU, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) of AIS, opened the day with an overview of AIS’s unique interdisciplinary approach to education, breaking down silos to nurture “π-shaped” talent who are capable of addressing complex, multi-faceted challenges of our evolving world.
Participants then joined one of three hands-on workshops. These immersive sessions showcased the unique strengths of AIS’s distinctive undergraduate programs, inviting students to explore their interests through experiential learning:
Following the workshops, students enjoyed lunch with faculty members and current AIS students, gaining authentic insights into academic life and the vibrant campus community. The day concluded with guided campus tours led by AIS Student Ambassadors, who introduced students to HKUST’s world-class learning facilities while sharing their personal experiences and practical advice on university life, helping students envision themselves as future HKUST students.
“A Day at AIS” provided participants with a memorable glimpse into the interdisciplinary and experiential learning opportunities here. We look forward to welcoming many of the participants as future AIS students!
