HKUST to Launch Hong Kong’s Largest Solar Energy Project

HKUST launches HK’s largest solar power system which involves the installation of up to 8,000 solar panels at over 50 locations on campus. The system will generate 3 million units (kWh) of electricity and help reduce 1.5 million kg of carbon emission each year, bringing an income of around HK$160 million out of CLP's FiT scheme over the next 13 years.

In Wenweipo’s series of JUPAS programme highlights, the HKUST Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP) is featured. As the first of its kind in Hong Kong, this program allows students to earn two internationally recognized degrees in just five years: a BEng or BSc, alongside a BBA. T&M-DDP is designed to provide a world-class interdisciplinary education, emphasizing technological innovation and managerial leadership with a global perspective. The program enrolls 40 to 50 students annually, with a JUPAS to non-JUPAS admission ratio of 41:59 and an admission rate of 26% for JUPAS Band A applicants. For the 2025/26 academic year, 22 places are available for JUPAS applicants, with HKUST highlighting interview performance as a critical factor in the admissions process. (Wenweipo)

South Asia facing extreme, frequent heat waves

More coverage on the Chief Development Strategist and Adjunct Professor of Division of Environment & Sustainability (ENVR), Prof. Christine LOH's concerns that a pattern of severe heat waves in South Asia is "clear and accelerating", citing the abnormally high temperatures in some parts of Pakistan. She warned that such heat waves will lead to heat stress or dehydration, as well as water stress, calling for local agencies to take preventive measures to combat the impact of the heat on humans and save lives.
