HKUST is developing a mobile app named “Personalized Real-Time Air Quality Informatics System for Exposure - Hong Kong” to provide real-time air quality information of specific areas/streets to the public. Prof. Alexis LAU of Division of Environment who leads the project said the app would be operated on big data collected from government departments like the Hong Kong Observatory and Transport Department, and also from public transport areas, malls etc.  The app will be launched in 3 stages and fully completed in 5 years.  By then, the public can obtain real-time air quality plus health risks information and map-out a route to avoid heavily polluted area.
