The 2nd Cross-Campus Exhibition “Symbiotic Signals: Entangled Perceptions and Algorithms” jointly presented by the Division of Arts and Machine Creativity (AMC) at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Computational Media and Arts Thrust (CMA) at HKUST (Guangzhou), successfully concluded on January 20, 2026, at the Shaw Auditorium.
The exhibition began on December 15, 2025, with a panel discussion at SIGGRAPH Asia 2025, featuring industry experts and academic leaders who explored the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on artistic creation and the evolution of interdisciplinary education. This insightful dialogue emphasized the importance of collaboration between art and technology in shaping future educational landscapes.
Prof. FU Hongbo, Acting Head of AMC, articulated the exhibition's commitment to a "learning through practice" philosophy, praising the rapid curatorial process led by student-run Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that brought 25 cross-media works to fruition in just six weeks from 36 submissions. Notable contributions included works from esteemed institutions such as Zhejiang Satellite TV’s Digital Human Studio and China Mobile (Zhejiang) Research & Innovation Institute. Prof. Fu highlighted the exhibition's goal of fostering an interactive dialogue among artists, audiences, and algorithms.
Prof. Ingeborg REICHLE, art historian, curator, and Chair of the Exhibition and Events Committee at CMA, shared insights into the collaborative spirit that defines this exhibition. She emphasized how the partnership between HKUST and HKUST (GZ) embodies innovative exploration within the integrated fields of art and technology, reflecting the dynamic creative environment of the Greater Bay Area.
This one-month exhibition offered a comprehensive presentation of emerging explorations and practices at the intersection of art and technology. It welcomed a diverse audience, comprising members of the university community, the public, and professionals from both local and international art and technology sectors. Two major focus events held on December 15 and 17 attracted over 200 leading academics and industry practitioners from 17 countries and regions, generating significant academic interest and positive public response.
This exhibition is not merely an artistic showcase, but embodies a vision for the future of interdisciplinary collaboration at the intersection of art and technology, inviting engagement with this vibrant creative community.
