Under the guidance of Prof. YEUNG King Lun, Chair Professor, Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR); Steven CHENG Ka Kit, PhD student in Environmental Science, Policy and Management program; and Malvin Subroto PAMUDJI, Associate Research Engineer, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, have been awarded First Prize in the Entrepreneurship Track (Start-up category) at the 11th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. Their innovative project, “Low Carbon Lifestyle with Silica Capsule Technology,” redefines the delivery of active ingredients in hygiene products for both humans and pets. This initiative aims to enhance product effectiveness while significantly reducing environmental impact. The awards ceremony, held on May 31, 2025, attracted a record-breaking 2,033 participants representing 687 projects, highlighting the competition's growing prominence and the exceptional quality of submissions this year.
Following their success, the team has been invited to compete in the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition 2025 this October. They previously secured the Grand Prize and Gold Medal at the World Invention Singapore 2025, proudly representing the HKSAR. Their team has received widespread recognition across sustainability-focused platforms in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and internationally. They have earned accolades at prestigious events, including the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions in Switzerland, the Asia Universities Alliance in Indonesia, WeStart Shanghai 2024, and the Rosewood Foundation Award.
