Organized by the Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR), the International Young Scientist Workshop on Atmospheric Environment, which gathered over 30 experts from around the globe at HKUST from January 15-19, 2025, concluded with great success.

The workshop was kicked off by an encouraging welcome remark from Prof. Alexis LAU, Head and Chair Professor of ENVR, “This workshop is about more than just listening — it’s about engaging with each other, sharing ideas, and building connections. I encourage everyone, especially the young scientists, to actively participate, explore new collaborations, and think boldly about the questions that will shape the future of atmospheric science. I’d also like to express my deepest thanks to all the speakers, session chairs, participants, and sponsors who have made this event possible, especially the EPD for their support and the importance of continued collaboration between government, academia and stakeholders.”

The week was filled with inspiring talks and engaging discussions. The participants explored the latest developments in atmospheric science, addressing pressing global issues such as air pollution and climate change, along with their impacts on public health. Additionally, advanced technologies in the atmospheric environment, such as enhanced air quality models and the application of machine learning in chemical transport modeling, were thoroughly discussed. 

Sincere gratitude was extended to the Environmental Protection Department of HKSAR, along with all speakers and participants, for their invaluable contributions to the success of the workshop.
