The Integrative Systems and Design (ISD) program is nurturing well-rounded innovators through its unique "learning by doing" approach.

Alex Wong, one of ISD's pioneering graduates, credits the program's people-centric philosophy as key to developing impactful innovations. "Instead of just applying a single area of engineering knowledge, the ISD program taught us to think more holistically, to identify root issues, then to approach the problem with a human-centered approach which caters to user needs," he explained. This human-focused mindset was reinforced through projects like designing stroke rehabilitation tools for the elderly.

With a versatile skillset spanning design, systems, technologies and entrepreneurship, Alex now works at a start-up as a product engineer, turning ideas into viable solutions and creating user-centric innovations.

The program's diverse curriculum sparks creative problem-solving from the start. Year 4 student Sammi Ho was drawn to ISD's integration of business, technology and hands-on learning experiences. Through project-based learning, she practiced defining problems and prototyping solutions like an intelligent snooker scoring system with interactive lighting.

ISD's comprehensive curriculum and hands-on approach equip students with the versatile skills needed to excel in various innovative industries. The immersive, multidisciplinary training enabled Sammi to thrive in her internship. "Thanks to ISD's fast-paced, collaborative projects, I could efficiently manage tasks, tackle complex design initiatives and adapt quickly during my internship," she said. Sammi’s well-rounded skillset landed her a dream job in digital technology before graduation.

By combining cutting-edge knowledge with people-centric principles, ISD is nurturing a new generation of innovators poised to create world-changing solutions. The program's unique approach empowers graduates to transform creative ideas into real-world solutions that enrich people's lives.
