The Hong Kong government has recently appointed Prof. Naubahar SHARIF, Acting Head and Professor of the Division of Public Policy (PPOL), as a member of the Chief Executive's Policy Unit (CEPU) Research Strategy Expert Group. This appointment, with effect from May 30, 2024 for a one-year term, is a significant acknowledgment of Professor SHARIF's expertise and contributions in the field of public policy. It also underscores his standing as a leading expert and advisor shaping Hong Kong's long-term research strategy.

Established in May 2023, the CEPU Expert Group serves as an advisory body and comprises members from diverse backgrounds including business, finance, professional fields, think tanks, and academia to provide the CEPU with expert views and new ideas on various topics. To facilitate the work of the Expert Group and its conduct of more focused discussions, members of the Expert Group are assigned into three broad streams: the Economic Advancement Expert Group, the Social Development Expert Group, and the Research Strategy Expert Group.

Prof. SHARIF has worked on a wide range of research areas, including science, technology and innovation (STI) policy in Hong Kong and within the ‘Greater Bay Area’ of Southern China; automation in China; and the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative over the years. In 2023, his project was honorably included in the "Chief Executive's Community Project List", recognizing the impact of his initiatives. Beyond his local impact, he has also shared his valuable policy insights on global platforms, such as the World Economic Forum's Young Global Leaders Development Program.
