T&M-DDP
The Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP) is designed to provide a world-class interdisciplinary education that emphasizes technological innovation and managerial leadership with an inclination towards a global perspective. T&M-DDP, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, offers high-caliber students an inspiring opportunity to gain two internationally-recognized degrees in five years: Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) or Bachelor of Science (BSc), and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).
T&M-DDP empowers students the skills to analyze issues from technological and business viewpoints and to solve problems with both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Students also develop awareness of different cultures and global perspectives and foster a willingness to serve, gaining much more than two degrees. With double degrees in technology and management, our graduates have a wide variety of career advancement opportunities.

The pace-setting BSc in Environmental Management and Technology (EVMT) program offers a unique opportunity for motivated students to move ahead in this area, educating a new generation of environmental professionals with cross-disciplinary knowledge to deliver ecologically and economically sound solutions and to take up the role of sustainability managers in corporations in Hong Kong and around the globe.
Drawing on HKUST’s expertise in science, engineering, management and the social sciences, the EVMT program examines issues from multiple viewpoints to enable students to integrate different perspectives and generate innovative ideas and solutions.

BSc in Individualized Interdisciplinary Major

The Individualized Interdisciplinary Major (IIM) offers a non-traditional, cross-school academic pathway for exceptional students with the vision, talents, and character to create their own study program.
IIM students clearly know what they want with special interests. They have the academic freedom to combine courses from different departments and Schools at HKUST, and even different universities, to develop an interdisciplinary major tailor-made to their intellectual interests, with standards ensured by a small supervisory team consisted of professors and field experts. Joining this exciting degree program will enable those selected to subsequently pursue a novel interdisciplinary research field or a career in an area of emerging significance.
The Individualized Interdisciplinary Major is the first program of its kind in Greater China. At leading universities globally, such as Harvard University, Yale University, California Institute of Technology, Cornell University, such kind of programs have established themselves as a superb option for a small group of high-potential achievers – those who flourish best by moving beyond regular curricula to fully engage their passion for a particular subject or a pace-setting combination of disciplines.

The mission of the Division of Integrative Systems and Design is to nurture a new generation of innovators who can work across multiple disciplines and create disruptive innovations to solve the world’s great challenges.
Integrative Systems and Design is a new paradigm for educating technologists and innovators. A more holistic systems perspective is necessary to truly innovate and tackle the problems of an ever-changing world. ISD uses integrative systems ranging from robotics to smart cities to biomedical systems to advance learning and knowledge through active teaching and transdisciplinary research. Embedding design and system thinking into the curriculum, combined with an emerging pedagogy of project-based active learning, will develop students’ technical competency, design thinking, understanding of complex and multi-disciplinary systems, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Green Finance

The BSc in Sustainable and Green Finance program is jointly offered by The Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR) and The School of Business and Management (SBM). The first of its kind in Hong Kong, this program is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills to fill the global talent gap for top level green and sustainable finance experts and help develop Hong Kong into a leading green finance center. The interdisciplinary nature of the program will provide students with a broad-based learning experience that cuts across business as well as environment, science, and technology. The program covers a wide range of topics related to Sustainable and Green Finance, spanning multiple disciplines including climate and ESG, finance and risk management, statistics and programming, big data, operations management, public policy, among others.
The holistic program will equip students with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills to function effectively in related fields, enhance students’ creativity and critical thinking skills, and provide students with a global outlook on the development of Sustainable and Green Finance. The graduates of this program will contribute to the economic and social development of Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and beyond.

The world is changing fast; technology is evolving faster than ever and shaping the rules and future of our society. Companies and individuals that do not keep up with some of the major tech trends run the risk of being left behind. Understanding the key trends will allow people and businesses to prepare and grasp the opportunities. So, on top of highly specialized experts, the society needs talents with multidimensional visions and knowledge, who can apply innovative technological skills to solve real-world problems.
To promptly answer the need for this special breed of graduates in an effective way, we enrich existing Majors with an Extended Major “X”, which is innovative in emerging area of significance recognized for the current need, and will be essential for the future scientific, engineering, business and social breakthrough. The Extended Major framework (Major+X) offers an organic study pattern for students from different disciplines to learn solid knowledge from their own Majors PLUS innovative application of “X” in their Major areas. Currently, we offer two Extended Majors, namely, “Artificial Intelligence” and “Digital Media and Creative Arts”.

The Common Core Program is an integral component of the undergraduate curriculum. It is expected to play a key role in students’ overall educational experience, complementing studies in specialist disciplines and other learning opportunities.
Through the common core experience, students will not only excel in their chosen discipline of study, but will also be nurtured through the study of arts, humanities and cultural studies. The program aims to develop students as intellectuals. They learn to appreciate and respect cultural diversities, follow their heart and aspirations in their endeavors, serve our communities, and take the lead to advance social justice and the well-being of mankind.
