3 students from the Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP) - Lambert LEUNG (Year 3), Calvin TUNG (Year 5) and graduate Lilian Ng (Class of 2022) won awards at Hong Kong Techathon 2023!
Hong Kong Techathon is a competition that aims to showcase innovative ideas in different categories including ArtTech and EdTech, Fintech and Web 3.0, Healthcare & GeronTech, and Smart Cities and Sustainability. The competition provides an opportunity for students and young professionals to collaborate and develop solutions to real-world challenges using technology.
Team “Wizard”, composed of Lambert and 3 other students from HKUST and CUHK, won the 1st runner-up in the ArtTech & EdTech category. They came up with the idea of Chinese Writing Wizard to assist the teaching of Chinese writing. By utilizing GPT-3, a language model developed by OpenAI, the Chinese Writing Wizard can generate writing samples in various styles, enabling Chinese teachers to train students’ writing skills more effectively.
Lilian and Calvin, teaming up with 2 other HKUST students to form “ICane”, won the 2nd runner-up in category “Healthcare & GeronTech”. Their project is to combine traditional white canes with advanced technology such as Computer Vision and Ultrasonic obstacle avoidance and Omni Wheel guidance. With ‘ICane’, visually impaired individuals can navigate their surroundings with greater ease and safety, thus enjoy better mobility, independence and quality of life.
Congratulations again to Lambert, Lilian and Calvin for their outstanding achievements in the Hong Kong Techathon 2023!
