Strengthening Ties for a Sustainable Future with Thai Meteorological Department

On 14 June 2024, Prof. Alexis LAU, Head and Chair Professor of the Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR), alongside Prof. CHEN Fei, Associate Head and Professor of ENVR and Co-chair of the Urban Prediction Project under the World Meteorological Organization's World Weather Research Program, embarked on a visit to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) to delve into potential collaborations between TMD and HKUST.

 

The visit aimed to explore partnership opportunities in crucial areas such as climate change, climate adaptation, climate resilience, heat, and air quality. Prof. Lau and Prof. Chen engaged in discussions with Ms. Kornrawee Sihichivapak, Director-General of TMD, and her esteemed colleagues, exchanging insights and ideas to foster mutual cooperation and advance scientific research in climate science.

 

The meeting between ENVR representatives and TMD signifies a significant step towards enhancing collaborative efforts in climate science and underscores the commitment of both institutions to advancing knowledge and solutions to contribute to regional climate resilience efforts.
