Two students of Risk Management and Business Intelligence (RMBI) Program, Yuki KWAN and Clara LO, were selected to participate in the Cross-boundary Study Tour for Post-secondary Financial Talents 2018, jointly launched by the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau of HKSAR Government and the Shanghai Municipal Government Financial Services Office with the aim of strengthening the co-operation in the training and exchange of financial talents of both sides.

32 university students from nine universities were selected to join the study tour 2018. They stayed in Shanghai for six weeks to visit and receive trainings from government organizations, financial regulators and exchanges as well as working as interns at a financial institution.

Participants visited Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the Shanghai Municipal Office of Financial Service, the People's Bank of China, the China Banking Regulatory Commission, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, the Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Shanghai Futures Exchange at Shanghai.

Yuki KWAN was offered an internship opportunity at Yixin Group (02858.HK), a leading online automobile finance transaction platform in China. It attracted Tencent, JD.com and Baidu as investors and has been listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 2017. Yuki assisted in quality assessment on loan approval by identifying risks associated with transactions and prepared training materials for Risk Management Department. She also conducted efficacy assurance and sample testing on personal loan transactions. This was Yuki’s first internship and she gained valuable hands-on experience on risk management and understand the organizational culture of the financial institutions in Mainland China.  She thinks this internship was really a good starting point to learn in financial industry.

Clara LO was assigned to Fosun International Limited (00656.HK), a family-focused multinational company that has been listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 2007 with operations in 16 countries worldwide.   Working in the Oil and Gas department, Clara learnt an industry that she was completely unfamiliar with from scratch by following several projects, in which she assisted in financial modelling, auditing, researching, and analyzing the investment opportunities. Clara had the chance to share her research and analysis during meetings, as well as learning to operate the Bloomberg terminal.  

Both Yuki and Clara highly recommend fellow students to join similar internship programs to learn first-hand about the industry and make friends with like-minded and passionate peers.
