On 27-29 Jun 2023, The World Economic Forum's three-day "Summer Davos" has seen over 1,500 global leaders discuss topics centered around "Entrepreneurship: The driving force of the global economy." While HKUST has the honour to be the only university in Hong Kong invited to attend the Forum, Prof. Pan HUI, Chair Professor of the Division of Emerging Interdisciplinary Areas (EMIA), served as the moderator of the Betazone session “Healing in the Digital Realm” and led a discussion on the integration of traditional healing practices with emerging technologies to find solutions for health and well-being in the metaverse.

Prof. HUI was also invited to speak at the Hub session titled “Metaverse Metropolis: Navigating Digital Twin Cities”. He stressed the importance of digital twin technology in building new towns and discussed how new business opportunities and technology efficiencies can be created in cities leveraging digital twin technologies. He also elaborated on how generative AI facilitated the development of metaverse metropolis.

Prof. HUI found it rewarding for his first time attending the Summer Davos, as he had the chance to have lateral discussion on powering up the industrial metaverse and generative artificial intelligence with professionals of different expertise.
