Students from Prof. Lilly LI's "ISDN3000A, From Ideas to Assets: Practice of the Creative Economy System" course transformed HKUST Atrium into a vibrant marketplace on May 8, 2025. The “IP Hatchery Market" displayed how intellectual property concepts can materialize into marketable artistic products.
Visitors encountered an array of handcrafted items including shrink plastic earrings, felt frames, knitted bags and cyanotype prints. Each creation demonstrated the course's emphasis on developing powerful visual identities through artistic techniques.
Unlike traditional exhibitions, this market encouraged tactile engagement, inviting attendees to handle the creations directly. Story cards accompanied purchases, revealing the intellectual property framework behind each piece.
The market served as a practical demonstration of the creative economy pipeline taught in the course—from inspiration capture to concept development to artistic expression with commercial potential. Through this hands-on experience, students gained valuable insights into transforming creative concepts into viable assets, bridging artistic expression with entrepreneurial application.
