Prof. Mitch LI’s team from the Division of Integrative Systems and Design (ISD) was cordially invited to be the guest speaker of "Members' Day: Sci-Fi or not?", organized by Hong Kong Science Museum on Mar 28, 2024 to showcase the innovative 3D food printing technology.
Connie LEE (ISD PhD student) together with other postgraduate research students from ISD led the sessions of technical demonstration titled "Sci-Fi Gastronomy: 3D Food Printing" to explain the basic concepts of 3D food printing and the process of AI digital food design to 600+ participants on that day. The content included demonstrations of generating 3D models using AI programs and big data platforms, the customization of the shape, size, and texture of food using self-developed software, and the use of a food printer for real-time printing and heating to create delicious and unique 3D-printed cookies.
An algorithm specifically developed for this event was used to generate cookie shapes for printing based on real-time weather data. Click here for the demo website link: https://elevatefoods.de.r.appspot.com/home.
The sessions were well-received, and participants were overjoyed to gain more insight into this fascinating invention and learn one of the technologies that could benefit our community and beyond.
