To improve understanding, bonding and interactions between IPO students, an 'ultimate survival' team building programme was held at the Ocean Park on 14 October 2021. 39 students were divided into four different teams to complete three challenges.
For the first challenge, each team had 5 attempts to rescue “threatened sea creatures” from a fishing net in the shortest time possible with restrictions like only one team mate was allowed to step inside the sea area at one time and every teammate must enter the sea area once. In order to succeed in the challenge, students must evaluate their strategies and utilize their creativity to improve the solutions and shorten the time spent.
For the next challenge, 3-4 teammates were sent on a mechanical ride. Teammates on the ground needed to deliver information to those on the ride through non-verbal means. The team had to build up a common non-verbal language to communicate effectively to complete the challenge.
For the final challenge, students collaborated together where half of the team were blindfolded and needed to pay attention to the instructions by teammates who can see to take away the pollutants. It took place at the big aquarium where real fish were swimming around.
After the team building programme, students enjoyed lunch in the Ocean Park restaurants and spent their free time in the Park. Many students found the teambuilding event a memorable experience to be held at the longest-running theme park in Hong Kong and was able to meet many new friends outside of class. They also like the positive learning atmosphere and the program was able to stimulating creativity and enhancing their problem-solving and collaboration skills.
