Our students from the Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP) immersed themselves in the vibrant world of innovation and entrepreneurship this Winter, making a meaningful impact through the International Business Plan Competition (IBPC) in the United States. From January 2 to 11, 2025, 12 T&M-DDP students embarked on a 10-day adventure in Austin, Texas, to participate in the IBPC, under the guidance of T&M-DDP Associate Director Prof. Betty LIN.
This year’s competition, hosted by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) with theme in "Innovating the Future of Transportation", brought together students from four Universities, including HKUST, UIUC, University of Bayreuth (UBT), and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). Together, they collaborated to create innovative business plans for technology-driven solutions addressing key challenges in the transportation industry.
Throughout the program, our students engaged with experts in various fields, enhancing their skills in cross-cultural collaboration and strategic project management. They emerged with impressive portfolio-ready deliverables, a broader understanding of teamwork across diverse backgrounds, all while expanding their global network. Between the Intense competition schedule, students also enjoyed the itinerary with visits to local tech startups and leading giants, team-based coaching from industry practitioners and investors, as well as scenic tours and delicious Mexican-style cuisine.
This experiential learning journey not only equipped our students with new skills and knowledge but also fostered lasting friendships and created cherished memories.
