On October 31, more than 55,000 visitors filled the HKUST campus for the Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions 2026, demonstrating unprecedented interest in the University’s diverse programs.
The Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) welcomed prospective students, parents, and educators with a vibrant lineup of activities. Throughout the day, visitors explored AIS undergraduate programs, unique features, and opportunities through admissions talks, interactive taster workshops, student sharing, guided laboratory tours, an immersive “AIS MR Gallery x AI Tutor” experience, and personal consultations at various program booths.
Prof. Arthur LAU, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies), delivered a thematic talk titled “Learning without Boundaries”. He highlighted how AIS is reshaping undergraduate education by breaking down silos to nurture “π-shaped” talent—graduates with deep expertise in more than one area and a broad set of collaborative skills in this AI era. The respective program admissions talks—including those for the Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP), BSc in Environmental Management and Technology (EVMT), BSc in Innovation, Design and Technology (IDT), and BSc in Individualized Interdisciplinary Major (IIM) offered an overview of each program’s distinctive features, diverse learning opportunities, innovative approaches to education, and career prospects. Notably, prospective students interested in IIM can now apply directly via program-based admissions under a standalone JUPAS code (JS5712) starting in the 2027/28 academic year.
Interactive taster workshops offered by T&M-DDP, EVMT, and IDT gave participants a firsthand glimpse into academic life. IDT students shared the journey of their year-long projects during the student panel, demonstrating how innovation can make learning meaningful. Visitors also toured the state-of-the-art ISD works! and Design Studio, where they explored the facilities, creative environment, and prototyping equipment.
This year, the “AIS MR Gallery x AI Tutor” experience showcased an interactive collaboration supported by PaideAI, a startup founded by PhD students from the Individualized Interdisciplinary Program (IIP). This experience invited participants to color program-inspired illustrations, scan them into a Mixed Reality gallery, and chat with an AI Tutor to discover AIS undergraduate programs. This fusion of art and technology provided a playful, practical demonstration of how interdisciplinary education encourages students to explore and learn without boundaries. A special shoutout to our IIP students— CHAI Wenjye, Christie PANG Ching, WANG Xuetong, WU Ze, and YIN Zhizhuo — for their support.
