Christie PANG Ching and WANG Xuetong, PhD students in the Individualized Interdisciplinary Program (IIP), received the Best Paper Honorable Mention at the ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing (CSCW) 2025—an honour awarded to the top 5% of worldwide submissions.

Supervised by Prof. HUI Pan, Chair Professor of the Division of Emerging Interdisciplinary Areas, their paper “My Dataset of Love: A Preliminary Mixed-Method Exploration of Human–AI Romantic Relationships” examines the dynamics of human–AI romantic relationships, identifying trends, patterns, and concerns surrounding this emerging phenomenon.

The study was recently cited by The Japan Times in an article discussing how AI is evolving from a mere tool into a source of comfort, companionship, and romance.

CSCW 2025 was held in Bergen, Norway, from October 18–22, 2025. The conference is one of the world’s leading venues for research on the design and use of technologies that affect groups, organizations, communities, and networks. Bringing together top researchers and practitioners, CSCW addresses the technical, social, material, and theoretical challenges of designing technology to support collaborative work and everyday life.
