The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held the Eighth Inauguration Ceremony of Named Professorships on November 20, 2025 to honor seven outstanding faculty members and acknowledge the generous support of their donors and supporters in promoting HKUST's dedicated pursuit of academic and research excellence.

Prof. Alexis LAU, Head and Chair Professor of the Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR), was honored during the ceremony for his appointment as the Tang Junyuan Professor of Environmental Science. His lifelong commitment to addressing global environmental challenges and fostering a sustainable future through his research, educational efforts, and professional services has been recognized. We extend our sincere gratitude for the generous donation from the Shanghai Tang Junyuan Education Foundation, which supports a more sustainable and promising future for all.

The ceremony was officiated by HKUST Pro-Chancellor Dr. John CHAN Cho-Chak, and attended by distinguished guests including: HKUST Council Chairman Prof. Harry SHUM, Court Chairman Dr. the Honorable Andrew LIAO Cheung-Sing, President Prof. Nancy IP, Vice-President for Administration and Business Prof. TAM Kar Yan, Vice-President for Research and Development Prof. Tim CHENG, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. Charles NG, Vice-President for Development Ir John KWONG, Dean of the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies Prof. QU Huamin, as well as other members of senior management, Council and Court members, and donor representatives including Mr. William TANG, Executive Director of Shanghai Tang Junyuan Education Foundation.
