The Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR) at HKUST celebrated a significant milestone with its 15th Anniversary Gala Dinner Cruise on January 30, 2026. Set against the dazzling backdrop of Victoria Harbor, the event welcomed over 260 distinguished guests, including faculty, alumni, students, and partners, to commemorate 15 years of growth and collaboration.

The celebration commenced with a warm welcome speech by Prof. Alexis LAU, Head and Chair Professor of ENVR, who reflected on the Division’s remarkable journey and achievements since its establishment in 2010 and shared ENVR’s vision for the future.

Following this, Prof. Arthur LAU, Associate Dean of the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies and Co-Director of ENVR’s undergraduate programs, highlighted ENVR’s role in nurturing sustainability leaders through interdisciplinary education and collaborations over the past 15 years.

A highlight of the evening was the announcement that the MSc in Environmental Science, Management and Sustainability (EVSM) has received accreditation from the Hong Kong Institute of Qualified Environmental Professionals (HKIQEP) for cohorts from 2025–26 onward. Both the BSc in Environmental Management and Technology (EVMT) program and EVSM program have become the first undergraduate and taught postgraduate programs in Hong Kong to receive HKIQEP accreditation.

The success of the Division is also built on the continued support of its corporate partners, including their contributions to EVMT Capstone Projects, which provide valuable opportunities for our EVMT final-year students to apply classroom learning to real-world sustainability challenges.

Honored guests Mr. Freeman CHEUNG, President of the HKIQEP, and Mr. Eddie TSE, Group Sustainability Manager of Gammon Construction Limited, shared their insights on professional development and the importance of strong academia-industry partnerships.

Adding a personal and inspiring touch to the celebration, ENVR alumni from different cohorts and programs, Dr. Agnes TAI (PhD in Environmental Science, Policy and Management, Class of 2022) Mr. Tim LO (MSc in EVSM, Class of 2018), Mr. Sunny WONG (BSc in EVMT, Class of 2017), Ms. Cat YIM (BSc in EVMT, Class of 2014), took the stage to share their journeys, achievements, and memorable experiences as part of the ENVR community.

As ENVR looks ahead, it remains committed to advancing education, research, and innovation in the environmental and sustainability fields. Building on 15 years of excellence, the Division will continue to cultivate the next generation of sustainability leaders and drive meaningful, lasting social impact.
