Students of MPhil/PhD in Environmental Science, Policy and Management (ESPM) and faculty

Students of the MPhil/PhD program in Environmental Science, Policy and Management (ESPM) won the Interdiscplinary Programs Office (IPO) Best Research Award 2015/16. The award presentation was held on 9 May 2016 to present the prizes. 

 

The IPO Best Research Award was established in 2011 with the support of the Executive Vice-President & Provost’s Office to recognize outstanding achievements by research postgraduate students who made the most original and influential research achievements outcome from their study that has been carried out mainly at HKUST.  The key objective of the Award is to foster the overall quality of research education in the University. 

 

The Award has two categories – the PhD and the MPhil category. Among the nominations in the PhD category, Mr. LU Xingcheng (third-year PhD student of ESPM) won the first prize, while the second prize went to Miss XIE Wenjing (second-year PhD student of ESPM).

For the MPhil category, Miss DOU Jing (Class of 2015, MPhil in ESPM) won the first prize.  She is now studying doctorate degree at the ETH Zurich in Switzerland.

 

The Selection Committee, comprising the Chair, Prof. Alexis LAU (Division of Environment), Prof. Henry LAM (Division of Biomedical Engineering) and Prof. Jianzhen YU (Division of Environment), assessed candidates on the research impact and output on evidence-based criteria based on candidates’ work done at HKUST. 

 

Prof. Alexis Lau and Prof. Jianzhen Yu joined the presentation to share the joy of the awardees. They highly appreciated the students’ achievements in research works and encouraged other students to compete for the award next year.
