Meaningful business learning and great cultural experience
16 top students of the Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management (T&M) joined the C40 Cities – Technology & Management International Case Competition Seoul 2009. They spent a week in Korea to experience the local culture and develop Green Business proposals with students from the Hoeft Technology and Management Program of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC), Seoul National University (SNU) and Korea University (KU).
This was an exclusive competition to T&M students. 2 HK, 2 US and 2 Korean students formed a team to work for a business plan on environmental sustainability in Seoul. 8 student teams presented their outstanding business ideas to a panel of professional judges from academy, government and industry, with consideration of technology, business and social issues.
The event was not simply a competition, but a real experience in Korea.
Students visited SK Telecom, Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Heavy Industries to experience the modern and hi-tech Korea. They went to campuses of SNU and KU under the guidance of their local teammates to experience the academic culture in Korea. Moreover, they have the chances to interact with government officials during the meeting with the City of Seoul and the C40 Sustainability Summit to experience Korean determination in green revolution.
"The international team experience brought me a brand new understanding of team building cultural difference. I treasure a lot the life-long friendship we developed in the competition…" said Yennie MA, a T&M student and a member of the winning team.
"This is a unique, unforgettable, once-in-a-life business competition. It is also a meaningful sustainability business learning and great cultural exposure experience…” said Swan LU, one of the T&M participants.
