AIS faculty and student had the honor of participating in the Reception for I&T Awards 2024, a prestigious event organized by the Hong Kong government celebrating the city’s innovation and technology achievements. Held on 15 July at the Central Government Office, the reception offered our researchers a unique platform to present their groundbreaking work to distinguished guests, including Chief Executive Mr. John LEE.
HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP led our university's delegation, which included 17 award-winning inventions from the Geneva exhibition. Among these outstanding innovations were two remarkable projects from AIS members.
Prof. Changying XIANG, Assistant Professor from the Division of Integrative Systems and Design (ISD), showcased the advanced photovoltaic smart window, featuring a special self-cleaning coating for solar panels that enhances the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of solar energy production.
Equally impressive was the rebar tying robot developed by Mr. Haozhen LI, a student of the MPhil Individualized Interdisciplinary Program (IIP). This innovative robot automates the process of tying steel bars in construction and significantly improves construction efficiency as the robot works faster and more accurately than human workers with minimal human intervention.
Both projects won a Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury at the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, demonstrating their high caliber in bridging multiple disciplines to create practical, industry-relevant solutions.
