Congratulations to Dr. Meike SAUERWEIN, Lecturer of the Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR), for winning the 2024 Common Core Teaching Excellence Award for her outstanding course "ENVR 1080, The Smart Consumer - Uncovering the Hidden Story behind the Product Label".

Since launching the course in 2017, Dr. Sauerwein has distinguished herself through her consumer-focused approach to sustainability education and innovative teaching tools, including the MilkCo. board game and a Hong Kong-specific carbon calculator app that helps students quantify their carbon footprint.

Her teaching philosophy emphasizes interactive engagement through two-way classroom communication, creating an inclusive learning environment with relatable materials and student participation through lectures, games, discussions, and case studies.
Students praise the course's transformative impact, with one noting, "It made me really reflect on my actions," and another stating, "Meike always encourages students to share and think beyond the box."
