CHAN Kai Ho, Hercules, a year 4 student of Risk Management & Business Intelligence Program (RMBI) has won the Champion of International Space-Out Competition in Taipei.
Space-Out Competition was first launched by a South Korean artist in 2014 as a form of visual art to remind people to relax from busy life and value “doing nothing” free time in a busy city.
Hercules is also a US certified hypnotherapist who developed the app “VOID” to help users release stress and improve sleeping quality and won the Best Student Invention Award at The Hong Kong ICT Award 2017. With the aim to promote mental health, Hercules took a one-day trip to Taipei to join the Space-Out competition and won the Champion out of his expectation.
He said space-out did help people to improve mental status. When you focus in spacing-out, you will enter a state of trance which allows you to be free from disturbance but concentrate on yourself to improve sensitivity. It not only helps release your stress but also enhance your sense in many aspects. For example, it helps generating creative ideas when you have a clear mind; inter-personal relationships will be improved while you become more patient with sympathy after in trance.
Busy is a close friend of HKUST students but surely not the best one. Be kind to yourself, take time to space-out!
