On November 1, over 50,000 visitors filled HKUST campus for the Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions 2025, exploring the distinctive features of various programs and obtaining the latest admissions information.
The Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) organized an exciting array of activities for prospective students, parents and teachers, including admissions talks, taster workshops, student sharing panel, guided laboratory tours, and an immersive Metaverse experience. Visitors also interacted with our program faculty, current students, alumni and staff at the consultation booths to learn more about the program’s unique features.
Prof. Arthur LAU, our Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies), delivered a thematic talk titled “Learning without Boundaries”, illustrating how an interdisciplinary approach in education is crucial to addressing today’s pressing global challenges. Admissions talks on Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP), BSc in Environmental Management and Technology (EVMT), BSc in Innovation, Design and Technology (IDT)*, BSc in Individualized Interdisciplinary Major (IIM) and Extended Majors provided a comprehensive overview of the program’s unique features, diverse learning opportunities, innovative pedagogies, and career prospects.
Participants engaged in the interactive taster workshops by T&M-DDP and EVMT which provided them firsthand experience of the course, while sharing sessions by IDT students showcased how innovation makes learning meaningful and engaging. Visitors also toured the state-of-the-art ISDworks! and Design Studio, where they explored the advanced prototyping equipment and inspiring student projects — a true testament to student’s creativity and learning outcomes.
This year, AIS also offered visitors a taste of our Metaverse classroom, introduced in 2023 by Prof. Pan HUI and Dr. ZHANG Rong for the first cross-disciplinary, cross-campus, and cross-reality course at HKUST, “EMIA 6500C: Metaverse Cross-disciplinary Design Thinking,” which brings together students from the Clear Water Bay and Guangzhou campuses. Through captivating immersive experiences in the metaverse, visitors had the opportunity to discover AIS undergraduate programs in a surreal environment that sparked their creativity. A special shoutout to Prof. Pan Hui and his research team—FU Zihao, Christie PANG, Arnold TSUI, WU Ze—and the Media Technology and Publishing Center for their support.
