The students of this Fall semester’s ENVR 2010 “Environmental Science Fundamentals” visited O-Park 1 and Kai Tak River to enhance their understanding of the environment and human environmental impacts through the guided tours.

During the visit to O-Park 1 on November 2, the students gained valuable insights into the food waste problem in Hong Kong from both technical and operational perspectives. They have become more aware of their personal food consumption and willing to develop the habit of avoiding food waste from their daily consumptions.

Another field trip to Kai Tak River on November 15 enhanced student’s understanding on the philosophy, objectives of revitalization of the Kai Tak River in mitigating the flooding problems, water management and public engagement through the public space and facilities associated with the project. They learned the importance of the integrated planning and management in addressing environmental and social needs.

The field trips of the course ENVR 2010 have provided students with an experiential learning experience, enabling affective learning and challenging preconceptions about the environment and human environmental impacts.
