Environmental Central Facility (Supporting Facility)

Environmental Central Facility (ENVF), as one of the HKUST’s central research facilities, is a key support platform equipped with environmental monitoring and analytical tools for atmospheric research.

ENVF engages primarily in applied, multidisciplinary environmental research and development activities that promote the socio-economic and technological development of Hong Kong and its region. The completed research projects include the following areas:
•    Atmospheric modeling and air pollution
•    Environmental biotechnology
•    Cleaner production
•    Coastal, marine science, engineering and management
•    Remote sensing and environmental GIS

Advanced environmental monitoring and analytical equipment are available to support a wide range of analytical methodologies and research, such as:
•    Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence
•    Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectrometer
•    Gas Chromatograph (GC) - Bench top Mass Selective Detector (MSD) in Electron Ionization (EI) mode
•    Gas Chromatograph (GC) -Bench top Mass Selective Detector (MSD) with CI option
•    Total Organic Carbon Analyzer (TOC)
